A Study on Horticulture Therapy: As a Method of Group Counseling Program to Improve Parent-Child Relationship in Single-Parent Families

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develope a group counseling program applying horticulture therapy to improve parent-child relationship of the single parent family, and verify the effect of it. To achieve the goals of this study, Group Counseling Program applying Horticulture Therapy was developed based on the group counseling program Model suggested by Kim, Chang Dea(2002). To verify the effect of the developed program, the program was practiced to 24 single parents, who were divided into an experimental group and a controlled group, once a week. The program in the totally 9 times was carried out, and each session took 120 minutes. The variables used to verify the effect of the program were degree of satisfaction on the parent-child relationship of pre and post experiments, self-esteem, and depression scale. The difference between the experimental groups and the controlled groups was analysed using ANCOVA. The following are the results of the study. There was statistically significant difference in the parent-child relationship, in the degree of self-esteem, and in the depression scale between the experimental group, which attended Group Counseling Program applying Horticulture Therapy, and the controlled group, which did not.
